Adam Benkers Batavia Illinois - PATH projects KREW
I'm from WI but now live in Illinois. I've been running for a little more than 10 years after a long break after High School Track. I started running again when I was 35 because I was out of shape and overweight. My goal was to lose some weight and just get in better overall fitness. This lead pretty quickly to running a 5k, then a few Half Marathons. Then, during my training for my first Marathon, I spontaneously sign up for a trail 50K. For the last 3 years, I've been a host on the Podcast Ten Junk Miles and I'm also the owner and race director for Ten Junk Miles Racing. I help manage the Ultra runners in Chicagoland running group as well.
Running accomplishment(s) you are proud of
Probably the thing in running I'm most proud of is running over 2000 miles each of the last 10 years.
Any races or adventures on your horizon and / or bucket list?
I'm looking forward to running Brazos Bend 100 on December 5th 2020
Your favorite PATH projects gear?
My favorite PATH projects gear are the shorts. I have all of them but if I had to pick a favorite, it's the Sykes 7". They fit really well, have great pockets and the material is so comfortable and durable.
What do you enjoy about running?
I really like to run. Running is my therapy, it's like making the bed in the morning, no matter what's going on or happening in life, after my run, I know I've accomplished something today.
Advice for runners looking to improve?
I've told many people throughout the years, the most important thing to improve your running is consistency. Being consistent in running leads to improvement almost on accident. Of course, once you've mastered consistency, nothing beats variations in training. Run long slow miles, do intervals, and tempos weekly!
