Mike Dorr Avon, CO - PATH projects KREW

Michael Dorr Path Projects Ambassador

I am personal trainer and amateur athlete living in Vail, CO via Iowa. My mother loved to run so she got me running when I was 6. I loved it and ran thru high school in track and XC. After high school I gave it up, got heavy and had too much fun. In 2009, weighing 215 lbs I decided I needed to change my lifestyle to a more positive note. I quit drinking and decided to eat better, lift weights and start running again. Living in mountains opened my eyes to the trail running. I loved being out there, in the trees, altitude, mountains and dirt. It was my outdoor sacred place. The trail running got me into mountain biking also. Then started racing in both trail runs and mountain biking which in turn got me into off road triathlons. The Vail Valley community has a huge trail running atmosphere and many events.

Running accomplishment(s) you are proud of

My first trail marathon, never had I ran more than a half before. I ended up winning even though the last 6 miles I was on struggle bus but managed to pull thru. Ceder City 50k, I took a wrong turn while I was in 2nd place. I ended up having to backtrack and running 60k. I really wanted to quit after I noticed I went the wrong way. I was glad I didn't quit and pushed thru.

Advice for runners looking to improve?

Without failure there can be no success. Enjoy your running, run because you want to. Not because you too.
