Sokhean Chea North Hills, CA - PATH projects KREW
Hi, my name is Sokhean Chea. I moved to California from Cambodia in 2008. I remember throwing up and passing out after I ran a mile in PE when I first enrolled in high school after I moved here. I started hiking in 2015 after I graduated from college while looking for a job. I became obsessed with the outdoors. I was finding a way to hike longer and faster so I began running to increase my endurance. Then I ran my first half marathon in 2018. I typically run solo but I want to change that.
Running accomplishment(s) you are proud of
I ran a sub 2 hour half marathon at Rose Bowl Half Marathon last year on my birthday. It was simply my birthday wish and it came true. I remember keep seeing notifications on my watch from my friends wishing me happy birthday and good luck on my race.
Any races or adventures on your horizon and / or bucket list?
I'm running my 3rd LA marathon in November 7, 2021. This is a race that has been pushing me to keep running 3 to 4 times a week since the beginning of this year. My goal is to run a sub 4:30 hour marathon, which is about 45 minutes faster than my last PR. I will also be backpacking a lot starting in June.
Your favorite PATH projects gear?
I always run and hike in Sykes PX - 5" Shorts. The back pocket is a CRAZY game changer. I still can't believe my iPhone 12 Pro Max can fit in there.
What do you enjoy about running?
It's the closest I've ever felt to flying.
Advice for runners looking to improve?
Find a time that works for you and stick to it. For me, I love running just before the sun is starting to set. The sky is so pretty to look at while I am running.
