David Garcia, Boulder, CO - PATH projects KREW

David Garcia PATH Projects KREW

I have been a trail running fanatic with a climbing problem for almost 30-years. I work as a firefighter in my home base of Boulder, CO where I have easy access to some of the best running trails and climbing the state has to offer. These days my focus is less on racing and more on finding cool “adventure runs” where I can combine my love of running in the mountains with climbing and scrambling.

Running accomplishment(s) you are proud of

1) My first 50-mile ultra: Man vs. Horse (yes, I raced against 35+ horses with riders). I wasn’t sure what to expect, but in the end, I found myself on the podium with the 3rd place finish! 2) My participation in an antelope persistance hunt in Northern New Mexico. I did this twice. The first was written up in Outside magazine and the second was filmed in a documentary called “Fair Chase.” Secret and spoiler alert that wasn’t in the film: we caught the antelope!

Any races or adventures on your horizon and / or bucket list?

No races right now. I’ve got a constantly growing list of adventures including the Zion traverse, Kokopelli trail, Teton traverse, High route in the Wind Rivers, John Muir trail, Wonderland trail, and quite a few ridge runs/traverses in the Indian Peaks Wilderness.

Your favorite PATH projects gear?

I don’t have any yet, but I’m excited to try it out.

What do you enjoy about running?

Short of calling it “therapy” or going to “church,” I love getting out for big days in the mountains. There’s nothing more satisfying than exploring areas that few people go by way of human powered propulsion. I can’t think of a better therapy or a better way to find my most spiritual self.

Advice for runners looking to improve?

Do the thing you suck at. You will find more improvement in training what you suck at than what you’re good doing.
