Albert Shank Phoenix, AZ - PATH projects KREW
I'm Albert. I'm from Phoenix, Arizona and I like running up and down mountains. I've been running consistently since 1993, I've done ultras since 2000 and all these years later I'm still competing and I'm still healthy with all my body parts intact. I also enjoy rock climbing and hitting the gym 5 days per week and tossing around some iron. I also like to surf when I can, to bike, and to paddleboard. I am an admin on the Maffetone Method Facebook page, I love being a positive influence to both old and new runners, and I love helping runners find a path to health and stay away from injury.
Running accomplishment(s) you are proud of
Too many to mention, but my solo adventure in November 2019 of the 31-mile Tanner/Escalante/Tonto/Grandview route in the Grand Canyon stands out. It's a very tough and technical route and involves lots of rocks, route finding, descending into a slot canyon, climbing a 50' cliff, Native American Ruins, drinking out of streams and lots of vertical.
Any races or adventures on your horizon and / or bucket list?
I plan on doing the Tanner/Escalante/Tonto/Grandview route again on November 14, doing a week in December where I plan on reaching 58,000' vertical for the week, and the Squaw Peak 50-mile race in Utah in June 2021. But there'll be other stuff in between for sure.
Your favorite PATH projects gear?
I LOVE the Sykes PX 7" with the 5" Tahoe base liners. I will never use lube again, and I love being able to carry my phone in the back pocket. Crazy good gear.
What do you enjoy about running?
Getting to the top of any mountain.
Advice for runners looking to improve?
Make most of your days very easy, sprinkle in the hard training in small amounts, and save your mojo and your PRs for race day.
Social channels you are most active on?
Anything else you’d like to share?
PATH projects gear is amazing and super high quality. Once you try it, you won't want to run in anything else.
